While inspections are not mandatory on their own, they are valuable tools to ensure the safety of your play equipment and surrounding space. Often accreditation organizations, franchisers, insurance companies, and other governing bodies require inspections for annual contract renewals.
The cost of an inspection depends on the size of a playground and/or the number of playgrounds per location. Generally, an inspection cost range is $400-600. Other factors that affect the cost are whether PlaySure has inspected the playground in the past and trip charges to locations, especially if multiple visits are required.

A playground inspection and a playground audit differ in scope, purpose and frequency.
A PlaySure inspection is a regular check of playground equipment and surroundings to ensure they are in safe working condition. Its purpose is to identify and address immediate hazards, wear and tear, or damage that could pose a risk to children. Inspections can be formal or informal - formal is usually conducted annually by a CPSI and informal is conducted by location personnel daily, weekly or monthly.
A PlaySure audit is a comprehensive evaluation of a playground to assess its compliance with safety standards and guidelines. Its purpose is to evaluate the overall safety design, layout, and compliance with regulatory standards like ASTM, CPSC, or ADA. Audits are usually conducted before a playground opens, after major renovations, or periodically (e.g., every 1-3 years) by a CPSI.
In between inspection periods, there may be a need to assess one (or a few) concerns for playground safety. For example, after a major storm or in cases of vandalism there may be a need to assess damage or equipment before re-opening the playground. This is when a consultation works. Often, a single piece of equipment is replaced and a consultation with a CPSI can help determine proper placement, age-appropriateness, use zone clearance, impact attenuation requirements, etc.
Consultations also help in the planning process for renovating a playground or constructing a new one. Plus, scheduling a consultation in the planning phase often saves time and money rather than waiting until after installation.
Like a home, playground maintenance should be divided into daily, weekly, monthly, and less frequent routines. The best starting point is with the equipment manufacturer's recommendations. Other factors to consider when developing a maintenance routine are amount of playground traffic, age of the play equipment, location, staffing, and maintenance equipment needs. PlaySure can help your organization develop maintenance plans for your staff or we can provide regular maintenance through one of our regular maintenance programs.
In some cases, PlaySure technicians can provide repair estimates and complete repairs, especially for safety issues identified and documented in an inspection conducted by a PlaySure CPSI or a CPSI from another company. Repairs documented in an inspection report fall under our "Compliance" service.
Other equipment repairs will be assessed and an estimate provided when play equipment is outside of the manufacturer's warranty scope. We can address minor equipment repairs, and even safety surfacing issues, and can provide recommendations for repairs outside of our expertise.
